How to get your typing certificate

  1. Pick a test length. Longer tests give a more convincing result.
  2. Type until the timer runs out.
  3. Enter your name under the results.
  4. Press Print certificate. To save a PDF, choose "Save as PDF" in your browser's print dialog.

Is this an official typing certificate?

No, and the certificate says so. Nobody watched you take the test, so it is a personal record of a result, great for motivation, a classroom, or tracking your progress. It does not prove your speed to an employer.

When you need an official typing certificate

Some job applications and courses ask for proof of typing speed. In that case they usually want a proctored test, taken under supervision or with identity checks. Ways people commonly get one:

  • The employer or staffing agency gives its own typing test during the application.
  • Community colleges and adult-education centers that run keyboarding courses may test and certify you.
  • Testing centers and online services that offer supervised, verifiable skills tests.

Before paying for anything, ask the employer exactly what they accept: which test, how long, and whether they want net or gross WPM.

Putting typing speed on your resume

A simple line in your skills section works best, for example: "Typing: 65 WPM (net), 98% accuracy." Use a number you can repeat on a supervised test, because many employers will check.
